Vietnamese folklore has played a large role in reflecting and shaping Vietnamese culture in substantial ways, such as the formation of morals, communities, and creating and differentiating identity between groups. To even smaller, more personal things, such as family values, marriage rituals, and the stories you tell your children. There are three primary teachings in Vietnamese Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. I want to highlight that these are teaching rather than strict religious practices. Vietnam has a long history of conflict and wars, allowing for many folklore stories to emerge, both sacred and secular. The merger between local indigenous folklore and imported teachings helped to create a source of new literature and symbolism, which had a large influence on Vietnam in the 20th century.
