Reflecting
Vietnam also has a long history of conflict, both internationally and internally. Many folklore pieces have been a result of this. Such as the many stories of wives waiting for their husbands who have gone to fight in these conflicts, to those that highlight the bravery of the soldiers themselves. Another more recent example is the Vietnam War’s ghost, which is believed to be the result of what the Vietnamese call the American War. These just show how events can lead to the creation of new folklore, but they also reflect Vietnam’s values of propagating heroic and selfless values, as well as the importance placed on commemorating historic events.
